Ahadith 3 - Greeting Salam (Peace) and Repentance

More Hadith received from the "sahih_hadith" e-group.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
(In the name of Allah, and all praises be to Allah, and Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.)

As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
(May Peace be upon you with His Rahmat, and with His blessings.)

1. [sahih_hadith] Sneezing or Yawning
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning, so if someone sneezes and then praises Allah, then it is obligatory on every Muslim who heard him, to say: May Allah be merciful to you (Yar-hamuka-l-lah). But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so one must try one's best to stop it, if one says 'Ha' when yawning, Satan will laugh at him."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 242

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

2. [sahih_hadith] What to say when somebody sneezes
Narrated by Abu Hurairah (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "If anyone of you sneezes, he should say 'Al-Hamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah), and his (Muslim) brother or companion should say to him, 'Yar-hamuka-l- lah' (May Allah bestow his Mercy on you). When the latter says 'Yar-hamuka-llah', the former should say, 'Yahdikumul-lah wa Yuslih balakum' (May Allah give you guidance and improve your condition)."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 243

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

3. [sahih_hadith] Riding one should greet the walking one
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "The riding one should greet the walking one, and the walking one should greet the sitting one, and the small number of persons should greet the large number of persons."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 251

Sis Aisya note:
This is the adab (Islamic manners) of greeting "May Peace Be Upon You" to someone first. To add on to the list:
• the one entering the room greets those already in the room. (Whether they are younger or elder.)
• the guest to the host,
• the young to the elder
• the wife to her husband
• the children to their parents

You get reward from Allah by these simple gesture, and earn Allah's pleasure by being first to greet. Even a smile is a charity and gets reward for it.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

3. [sahih_hadith] Greet Everyone

Narrated by Abdullah bin Amr (Radhiallaho anho):
A man asked Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) "What Islamic traits are the best?" The Prophet said, "Feed the people, and greet those whom you know and those whom you do not know."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 253B

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

4. [sahih_hadith] To avoid making another get up from his seat

Narrated by Ibn umar (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "A man should not make another man get up from his (the latter's) seat (in a gathering) in order to sit there."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 286

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

5. [sahih_hadith] Better who starts greeting the others

Narrated by Abu Aiyub (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "It is not lawful for a Muslim to desert (not to speak to) his brother Muslim for more than three days while meeting, one turns his face to one side and the other turns his face to the other side. Lo! The better of the two is the one who starts greeting the other."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 254

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

6. [sahih_hadith] Talking secretly and excluding a person present

Narrated by Abdullah (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "When three persons are together, then no two of them should hold secret counsel excluding the third person."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 303

Sis Aisya note: When there are 3 people together, do not ignore a 3rd person when 2 are having private conversation, should include the 3rd party to join in their conversation. Noted that no gossiping and backbiting is allow, if the 2 are gossiping or backbiting on others, it is better for the 3rd party to advice them to stop or excuse himself and move away.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

7. [sahih_hadith] Great Sins

Narrated by Abu Bakra (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?" They said, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "To join partners in worship with Allah, and to be undutiful to one's parents."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 290

Sis Aisya note: The greatest sin in Islam is Shirk (associating partners to Allah). Allah is the One and Only Creator of the whole creation. Allah is the Most Powerful and the Most Almighty. Allah has no son or partner. So we do not idolised someone as god and worship the person, this is associating patners in worship with Allah. Islam teaches us about our duties in life - the parents take care and provide means for their children; husband earns a descent living and provides for the family; wife take care of the property of the husband and educate the children; Children take care of their elderly parents. If one is undutiful to one's parents, one has committed a great sin.

8. [sahih_hadith] The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah

Narrated by Shaddad bin Aus (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: 'Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka, wa ana 'ala ahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, A'udhu bika min Sharri ma sana'tu, abu'u Laka bini'matika 'alaiya, wa Abu Laka bidhanbi faghfirli innahu la yaghfiru adhdhunuba illa anta.' " The Prophet added. "If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same
day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 318

Sis Aisya note:
Also encourage to ask for forgiveness with: Laa-i-laaha illaa anta subhaanaka inni kuntu minaz zolimin
(None has the right to be worchipped but You (O Allah), Glorifed (and Exalted) are You [above all that (evil) they associate with You!] Truely, I have been of the wrongdoers. (Chapter An-biya 21:87)

This was the repentance of Prophet Jonah, who runaway from his duties to convey the Message of One God, while he was escaping on a sailing ship, Allah created a huge storm that non can stop. The ship crews threw everything offboard but no use. The captain found it abnormal and realised someone onboard had runaway from his duties and invited the wrath of Allah. Finally prophet Jonah admitted his mistake and was thrown overboard. The storm stopped and he was swallowed by a huge whale. Inside the whale without any light for a long period, prophet Jonah kept repeating his repenting supplication. Finally Allah forgive him and so the whale (carrying prophet Jonah inside its stomach) to a land and let him out. This is highly recommended to seek for forgiveness from Allah.

Translation of the arabic supplication: Oh Allah, You are my Lord, there is no God but You. You have created me and I am Your servant, and I am upon Your convenant and Your promise as far as I can. I seek refuge from the evils of what I have committed, and I return to You with Your favour on me and return to You, penitent with my sins. So pardon me, and nobody does pardon sins except You.

The Prophet (PBUH) said "Pass on knowledge from me even if it is only one verse"

Thank Yous & Updates of new Links

I have received a few feedback and questions regarding MBT shoes & Al Jauhar Courses and the hadith I posted. Thank you all for your generous feedbacks so far.

At the mean time I am freelancing at a design firm, so can't update my blog so often.

I have added a link to MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) which you all can check out the function of the shoe.

A Swiss concept that exceeds all expectations

Physiotherapists, osteopaths & chiropractors recommend the use of MBT to successfully help prevent and treat injuries. Through the biomechanical function of MBT, the muscles, joints and spine begin to function anatomically. Joint wear is reduced, and with it pain.
• With every step taken, MBT is therapeutic and simultaneously preventative.

Ahadith 2

More Hadith of the prophet.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu

1. [sahih_hadith] Love for the sake of Allah
Narrated by Anas bin Malik (Radhiallaho anho):
A man asked Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) When will the Hour be established, O Allah's Apostle?" The Prophet said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "I haven't prepared for it much of prayers or fast or alms, but I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet said, "You will be with those whom you love."

From: Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 192

Sis Aisya: The Hour meaning the Last Day of Judgement. For those who love Allah (our Creator) and His Messenger(s) more than himself, he will be among the believers of the Messenger and Allah.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
2. [sahih_hadith] To praise a person
Narrated by Abu Bakra (Radhiallaho anho):
A man praised another man in front of Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam). Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said thrice, "Wailaka (Woe on you)! You have cut the neck of your brother!" The Prophet added, "If it is indispensable for anyone of you to praise a person, then he should say, 'I think that such-and-such person (is so-and-so),' and Allah is the one who will take his accounts (as he knows his reality) and none can sanctify anybody before Allah (and that only if he knows well about that person)."

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No. 183

Sis Aisya note: A muslim should avoid being praised as it will leads to arrogant. Allah dislike His believer to be arrogant... The angel is recording our conduct every seconds, praise from Allah (our Creator) is better than praised by billions of people, isn't it? ;-) Only Allah knows what is deep in our heart, even a tiny drop of goodness is also being recorded... His reward for a pious believer is the paradise.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

3. [sahih_hadith] Abuse the Dahr (Time)
Narrated by Abu Huraira (Radhiallaho anho):
Allah's Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam)said, "Allah said, 'The offspring of Adam abuse the Dahr (Time), and I am the Dahr; in My Hands are the night and the day!' "

Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 8 : No.200

Sis Aisya note: We are the offsprings of Prophet Adam (the first human created by Allah). Abuse the Dahr (Time) means we didn't make full use of the Time to do good deeds. Allah dislike us wasting our time. Allah is forever, never ending, so He is the Time, He controls all creations even the day and night (sun, moon and eveything that exists).

Things that we can make good use of Time: seek (good) knowledge; pray on time; give alms (charity); helping the needy; fasting; dzikir (remembrance of Allah); earn a decent living; provide foods for the family; love your parents, siblings and neighbour & spend time with them etc.
